I dont need to go into why I would do a thing like this, most people have already read my horror stories over the past few days. I finished up with the camera installation into my Z. I am using an Intel Pro Camera USB, max resolution of 640X480, plenty good. I mounted the camera up on the ceiling, back near the seam of the roof/rear hatch. It can clearly see key items. 1) The road in front. Indication of traffic, weather, etc etc. 2) The speedometer (as long as I sit up and not lean to the center of the car which I tend to do sometimes), BUT.... 3) The DAQ speed on the primary display in the center. I oversized the text of the speed window so that it is CLEARLY visible to the camera. There is NO doubt about it and its speed directly reflects that of the speedometer. 4) The time and date is in another window on the screen which is also visible. It also captures audio from the microphone. The application is in the startup and it begins recording to indexed files on the hard disk. Now here's the only problem. In order to get the exchange with the officer on video, I would have to ask him to speak with me in front of my car. He probably wont go for that as they usually want you in front of theirs. Of course, sometimes they dont even ask you to get out which in that case I'll just turn the camera towards the driver's window. All it needs to reflect is that the officer is wherever and the audio will capture the most important part of the exchange. But if he asks you to get out and step in front of his car, your audio and video will not get anything as he will most likely be behind you, the camera doesn't point that way and the microphone isnt outside the car. Here's how I'm gonna do it though. I have an X-10 wireless camera that I bought for my helicopter. It is very small and could easily fit in a lot of different places. In a baseball cap, in a beeper case, somewhere, anywhere would be possible. The idea here is to get the video and audio of the exchange between you and the officer. The video and audio will be linked back to the car and recorded onto the hard disk in a seperate file. This will allow me to completely film what my car was doing at the time before I even knew the cop was gonna do something, all the way to the point where he hands me back my driver's license (and ticket if that is the case) and I point to my rear bumper to point out the sticker that says "Video Recording in Progress" and thank him. Of course, if all is good and he was right in giving the ticket, there's nothing that the aidio/video will do for me. However, if that isn't the case, I have information that will give my word hierarchy over his. Mu ha ha ha mutha f*cka. Case in point: The voilatiing a traffic control device ticket. If I had this system in place, not only could I have shown that I wasn't speeding, but I could also have gotten the officers own statement saying how fast he had to go to catch me. That information would ruin his case as well as his reputation with the court. I would *prove* that cops are liars. I need to look more into the law around video taping all of this. Not sure if I have to tell him he is being recorded, and if I do, at what point in time does he need to be told that. I hope that I dont have to have any stickers or say a word about it to him. When he videotapes you he doesn't have to tell you. Why should I? That's just my logic kicking in, the law is far from operating within the bounds of logic so I wouldn't be suprised if it even stated that I couldn't do anything like this at all. Go figure. If you happen to know anything about the law of this, I'm all ears.
